VARIOS combines TEMPOS and HYPROP technologies to simultaneously measure the thermal conductivity and soil moisture content of the same soil sample. Easy to operate, simply insert the probe into a soil sample saturated with water and place it on the balance. As the moisture content of the soil sample continues to evaporate, VARIOS automatically performs hundreds of precise measurements of thermal conductivity, while the balance weighs it to calculate the moisture content of the sample. Powerful software can automatically complete all calculations, visualizations, and fitting, reducing the possibility of errors.
VARIOS was designed specifically for the 400 mile Suedlink underground cable laying project in Germany, and for this project, thousands of drying process thermal characteristic curves were measured. Through continuous practical testing in engineering, the characteristics of VARIOS design accuracy, reasonable price, and low maintenance cost have been verified.
VARIOS uses the transient line heat source method, which complies with IEEE 442-2017 and ASTM D5334 standards. This is a reliable measurement method with short heating time and low heating power. This method reduces water movement caused by heating and convection, and shortens measurement time. VARIOS can automatically correct temperature drift, and the heating power and duration can be optimized for specific materials and material characteristics. In addition, each drying process thermal characteristic curve has hundreds of data points, fully recording the details of changes during soil drying. VARIOS is a complete solution that integrates software and hardware, providing everything necessary for conducting thermal characteristic curve experiments during the drying process, including cables, installation tools, and software.
